October 1

  • 1949: Walt Disney Music Company is formed
  • 1971: Walt Disney World Resort opens with the Magic Kingdom and two hotels near Orlando, Florida
  • 1982: EPCOT Center, a major undertaking for Disney, costing in the neighborhood of $1 billion, opens at Walt Disney World Resort
  • 1988: Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort opens at Walt Disney World
  • 1989: A new parade debuted at Magic Kingdom Park – the Disney Character Hit Parade (also known as the “Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah Parade”)
  • 1991: Magic Kingdom Park welcomed a brand-new nighttime parade: “SpectroMagic”
  • 1995: The Disney Channel begins operation in the UK
  • 2005: Robert A Iger Named Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company
  • 2009: The Walt Disney Family Museum opens in San Francisco
  • 2010: Mickey’s Halloween Party is offered for the first time at Disneyland park

  • 1992: Splash Mountain opened at Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World
  • 1992: Walt Disney Pictures “The Mighty Ducks” is Released
  • 2000: “Buzz Lightyear of Star Command” Debuts in Syndication

  • 1947: The Mickey Mouse Cartoon “Mickey’s Delayed Date” released through R-K-O Pictures
  • 1955: The Mickey Mouse Club makes its debut on ABC Television Network
  • 1971: Peter Pan’s Flight opened at Magic Kingdom Park (Walt Disney World)
  • 2000: The Riverside Building – New Home of ABC is Dedicated
  • 2002: Le Bat en Rouge opens in New Orleans Square at Disneyland park

  • 1926: The Alice Comedy “Alice in the Wooly West” is Released
  • 1993: Mission to Mars Closes at Walt Disney World

  • 1935: The Silly Symphony “Music Land” is Released
  • 1949: “The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr Toad” Premieres
  • 1955: The Disneyland Hotel opens as the “Official Hotel of the Magic Kingdom”
  • 2008: Miley Cyrus celebrates her 16th birthday during a private event at Disneyland park

  • 1983: The Live Action Adventure Film “Never Cry Wolf” Premieres
  • 1989: An enhanced electronic marquee sign is unveiled outside Disneyland park along Harbor Blvd, replacing the 1958 marquee
  • 2002: “a bugs land” Opens at Disney California Adventure
  • 2014: Anna & Elsa’s Boutique opens at Downtown Disney Anaheim at the Disneyland Resort

  • 1971: “Bedknobs and Broomsticks” premieres in London
  • 1998: Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin opened at Magic Kingdom Park
  • 2002: Inspired by Disney*Pixar’s “a bug’s life,” a bug’s land opens at Disney California Adventure park

  • 1988: Disney/Touchstone Television’s “Empty Nest” Debuts on TV
  • 1993: The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim play their first NHL game at the Anaheim Pond
  • 2003: Mickey’s PhilharMagic officially opened with a dedication ceremony in Magic Kingdom Park. It had previously had a soft opening on September 30
  • 2003: “Wishes: A Magical Gathering of Disney Dreams” Fireworks Show Premieres at Magic Kingdom Park Walt Disney World
  • 2010: Guests first step into The Grid when ElecTRONica debuts at Disney California Adventure park

  • 1942: The Goofy Cartoon “The Olympic Champ” is released
  • 2003: “Mission: Space” Grand Opening in Epcot at Walt Disney World

  • 1952: The Donald Duck cartoon short “Trick or Treat” debuts
  • 1957: Walt Disney Productions “Zorro” Debuts on TV

  • 1964: Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color Airs “A Rag a Bone a Box of Junk”

  • 1986: The Golden Horseshoe Revue Closes at Disneyland
  • 2005: Disney is the first to license TV episodes for download on Apple iTunes Store
  • 2009: George A. Kalogridis officially becomes president of the Disneyland Resort. He later became the president of the Walt Disney World Resort in 2013
  • 2013: The first D23 Expo Japan, held at the Tokyo Disney Resort took place

  • 1950: The Donald Duck Cartoon Short “Bee at the Beach” is Released
  • 1993: Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas” is released to a limited number of Theaters. It was generally released on October 29

  • 1938: The Silly Symphony “Farmyard Symphony” is Released
  • 1949: The Donald Duck Cartoon “The Greener Yard”, featuring Bootle Beetle & Ezra Beetle, was released through R-K-O Pictures
  • 2009: The Sum of All Thrills™ attraction opened at Epcot

  • 1932: The Mickey Mouse Cartoon “Touchdown Mickey” is Released
  • 1937: The Mickey, Donald and Goofy Cartoon Short “Clock Cleaners” is released
  • 1998: Fantasmic! Debuted at Disney Hollywood Studios

  • 1923: Walt signed a contract with M. J. Winkler to produce a series of Alice Comedies — this date is considered the start of the Disney company first known as The Disney Brothers Studio
  • 2006: Disney Announces Healthy Food Initiatives for US Theme Parks

  • 1937: Huey, Dewey and Louie Debut in the Donald Duck Color Sunday Comic
  • 1986: Disney’s Touchstone Pictures Releases “The Color of Money”
  • 2007: Plans for major expansion of Disney California Adventure park are announced, including an area called Cars Land

  • 1967: Disney Animation’s 19th feature “The Jungle Book” was released

  • 1955: “The Story of the Silly Symphony” debuts on “Disneyland” (television series)
  • 1989: Wonders of Life Pavilion Opens at Epcot
  • 2013: Ka Maka Landing officially opened at Aulani Resort

  • 1983: Disney Premieres “Mickey’s Christmas Carol” in England
  • 1995: Ted Thomas’ documentary, Frank and Ollie, was generally released in the US
  • 2006: The Disney Touchstone Pictures Movie “The Prestige” Premiered
  • 2006: Tim Burton’s THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS was generally re-released in Disney Digital 3D
  • 2008: Blue Sky Cellar opens at Disney California Adventure park w/ highlights of the park expansion
  • 2012: Disney Legend and former Disney Chairman of the Board Ray Watson died

  • 1934: First issue of “Le Journal de Mickey” Published in France
  • 1972: The Winnie the Pooh for President Event Begins at Disneyland

  • 1982: Official Grand Opening Ceremonies for EPCOT Center at Walt Disney World

  • 1941: “Dumbo”, the fourth Disney animated feature is released
  • 1953: The Donald Duck cartoon short “Rugged Bear” is released
  • 2013: The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa opened at The Walt Disney World Resort

  • 1929: The Silly Symphony “Springtime” was released
  • 1941: The Donald Duck Cartoon “Donald’s Camera” is Released
  • 1982: The Fountain of Nations at Epcot had its dedication ceremony
  • 2001: Disney acquires Fox Family Channel and renames it ABC Family
  • 2003: Disney Animation’s 44th feature, BROTHER BEAR, premiered at the El Capitan Theatre. It opened nationwide on November 1.
  • 2012: Disney Legend Lucille Martin passed away. She was Walt Disney’s personal assistant and later vice president and special assistant to The Walt Disney Company Board of Directors

  • 1968: Life Magazine Celebrates Mickey Mouse’s 40th Birthday
  • 1971: The official grand opening and dedication took place at Walt Disney World
  • 1996: Disney’s Hollywood Pictures “The Associate” Premieres
  • 2008: Pixie Hollow opens at Disneyland

  • 1997: “The Tower of Terror” Airs on The Wonderful World of Disney

  • 2002: The Disney-owned Anaheim Angels defeat the San Francisco Giants to win the World Series

  • 2012: The Walt Disney Company announces purchase of LucasFilm from George Lucas. The acquisition also includes all of Lucasfilm’s operating businesses – Industrial Light and Magic and Skywalker Sound
